Discover Saguaro Lake: Guided Kayaking Tours in the Arizona Desert
Only a 40 minute drive from Phoenix, Saguaro Lake provides a unique opportunity for you to get in touch with the natural scenery of the American Southwest.
- This 3.5 mile paddle includes a beach launch, shorelines decorated with iconic saguaro cacti, and an isolated section of towering canyon walls.
- Our guides will help you with your paddling technique as well as provide you with unique facts about local landscape, flora, fauna, and history.
- This adventure is fit for paddlers of all levels and ages.
Tour Details
**When:**
- This tour is available year round.
- Days and times change depending on the time of year.
**Where:**
- Tours launch from Butcher Jones Recreation Site.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled launch.
**What is Provided:**
- Kayak or paddle board, seat, paddle, PFD (life jacket), dry bag, Tonto Forest Parking Pass, water, light snacks.
**What to Wear:**
- Hat, sunglasses, sun protective clothing, shoes or all-terrain sandals that can get wet. Synthetic clothing in layers recommended in cooler weather.
**What to Bring:**
- Water, Snacks, Sunscreen, Camera, Change of Dry Clothes.
- Launch site is equipped with vault toilets but **NO RUNNING WATER.**
Special Considerations
- Double kayak options available. Be sure to request in advance.
- The tour is approximately 3.5 - 4 miles long. Prior paddle experience is recommended. If reserving a stand up paddleboard, prior SUP experience is REQUIRED as there will be exposure to potential wind and boat wake.
- Contact us if you have children under 8 years old, special physical needs, exceed 275 lbs.
- Children under 12 years old are required to be in a double kayak with an adult guardian.

**The tour is subject to change or be canceled due to weather conditions. All participants must wear a PFD during the tour. No exceptions. Participants should be able to swim.*
**Riverbound is an authorized outfitter operating under permit through the Tonto National Forest Mesa District. We are permitted to provide tours at Saguaro Lake, Canyon Lake, and the Lower Salt River. All tour guides are CPR certified and ACA (American Canoe Association) certified for instruction, guiding, and water safety.*

**Saguaro Lake Tour**
We will be meeting at Butcher Jones Recreation Site on beautiful Saguaro Lake. Starting at Butcher Jones Beach, come join us for a 3 mile (approx 2.5-3 hours) paddle tour of some of Saguaro Lakes’ beautiful scenery and wildlife. Your guide will provide all necessary paddle equipment, tips and information for an amazing experience.
**What's Included:**
- Your reservation includes the gear needed for the tour (kayak. paddleboard, paddles, life-jackets) for the scheduled tour.
- Tonto Day Pass for parking
- Drybags for personal items
- Water and light snacks
**Things to bring:**
- Hats, sunglasses with lanyards, towels, sunscreen
- Clothes that can get wet - athletic dry-fit style and swimwear are recommended. Windbreaker style jacket for cooler windier days - avoid cotton and sweatshirts
- Water shoes or all-terrain sandals are ideal (the walk from parking area to shoreline is a combination of asphalt, gravel and low desert brush)
- Optional change of clothes to leave in your vehicle
- Your sense of adventure!
**Pro tips:**
- Holidays and weekends - Please be sure to arrive early as parking lots may close once full.
- Check the daily forecast and dress appropriately
**Paddle logistics:**
The route of the tour can vary due to weather and paddlers' abilities. We always chose the safest route and no paddler is left behind. We plan for one or two breaks during the tour for snacks and photos.
Late arrivals may shorten the route to keep forthcoming reservations on time. If the group is large, we will not be able to wait for stragglers.
We are not responsible for lost or damaged personal items. Please keep valuables at home. All participants are required to complete the paddle waiver.
