About
- Venture off-road to explore the rugged mountains and rural villages of Madeira on this half-day safari from Funchal. Travel around the Fajã dos Padres cliffs in an open-top safari vehicle, take in the views from Boca dos Namorados and Jardim da Serra, and pass through traditional villages like Curral das Freiras and Fajã das Galinhas.
- Start the day with a pick up from either your Funchal hotel or the cruise port. Head towards Fajã dos Padres, a cliff of 310 meters, to start the safari. As you drive up towards the hills, you will stop halfway to use the restrooms. Continue on your drive after that very brief break. You will then come to a serene spot where you will enjoy a view over the village of Jardim da Serra.
- Next, descend towards the town of Fajã das Galinhas. Afterwards, make a short visit to Boca dos Namorados to have a panoramic view of the village Curral das Freiras. The terrain of the valley keeps this quaint village isolated from other communities. Upon completion of the tour, your guide will begin the journey back to Funchal using the motorway.

- Caniço - Câmara de Lobos - Ribeira Brava - Ponta do Sol - 15-30 minutes before the activity start time
- Machico - Santa Cruz - Caniçal - Calheta - 30 minutes before the activity start time
- Porto Moniz - 60 minutes before the activity start time
- São Vicente - 45 minutes before the activity start time
- Santana - 30 to 45 minutes before the activity start time

Important Information
This tour includes off-road driving on uneven terrain and winding mountain roads. Please follow the driver/guide’s instructions at all times.
Suitable clothing and comfortable footwear are recommended. Bring a light jacket, as weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly.
During summer, we recommend sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
Swimming in the natural pools of Porto Moniz is optional and weather dependent. Guests who wish to swim should bring swimwear and a towel.
The safari vehicles are open-top, allowing for a more adventurous experience. Please keep arms and personal belongings inside the vehicle while driving normal roads.
This tour is not recommended for pregnant women, guests with severe back or mobility problems, or anyone with medical conditions that may be affected by off-road driving.
Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult and must use seat belts at all times. Child seats are available upon request.
