##Schedule:
Meet at the boat ramp in the Tench Reserve 9.30am. Please be on time. We will
pack the Kayaks, have a safety and paddle technique briefing and plan to be on
the water by 10.00.
We usually stop for a break at Glenbrook Creek and lunch at either Euroka
Creek or Breakfast creek, depending on the speed and ability of the group.
On the trip home we stop again at Glenbrook Creek.
##What is supplied:
Sydney Kayak supplies the kayaks and kayaking equipment, Lunch and
Sunscreen.
##What to bring:
You should bring at least 1ltr of water per person, a change of clothes for after
the paddle in case you get wet. It is rare for anyone to fall in but you can get
damp from paddle splash.
You can bring phones and Cameras but remember there is a risk as they don’t
float and usually don’t work if dropped in water. For anything with a touch
screen it is a good idea to have a small cloth to wipe drops from wet fingers off
the screen as they can be sensed as a finger touch and make use difficult.
Anything you don’t want to get wet should be in a zip lock bag or dry bag.
There is very little room in a Kayak so back packs are best left behind unless
very small.
##What to wear:
Paddling is a water sport so expect to get splashed. Your feet will get wet. Footwear is strongly recommended.
The clothing Golden Rules - your kayak clothing should:
- NO COTTON or DENIM - when it gets wet, it does not dry and
remains cold and heavy! NOT EVEN JOCKS or socks!
- When wet it must stay warm AND dry quickly!
- The key concept to bear in mind is layering. Several thin garments will
keep you just as warm as a single thicker one, and are much more
versatile. Remember you’ll need to think about staying cool as much as
staying warm, and you can always add or subtract layers.
- A light Nylon Jacket will keep out wind and water. Fleeces are OK. Avoid heavy Jackets
##What to expect:
You will be paddling up the beautiful Nepean Gorge.
Most of this paddle is in the bush so there is a great assortment of birds and
wildlife to be seen. Being wildlife there are trips where we see a lot and other
times not as much.
Phone reception is non-existent on some of this paddle.
There are no toilets so, if needed, comfort stops will mean finding space behind
a friendly tree or rock.
Most people of average fitness who are non paddlers find they are tired but not
shattered. You are in doubles so you can share the workload.
Weather cancellation:
In the event of bad weather (rain or high winds) A decision will be made the
evening 36 hours before the paddle so for a Saturday paddle the decision will be
made Thursday evening. If you don’t receive a call or txt its going ahead.
##Directions:
We meet at the old boat ramp, (Next to New boat ramp, opposite the Coffee
club Café) Tench reserve, Tench Ave, Jamison town Penrith. Look for the
Kayaks on the old boat ramp.
