It seemed almost strange at first.

After spending time kayaking, I started realizing that Arizona's lakes aren't simply places to cool down.

At Canyon Lake, for example, the combination of steep red-rock cliffs, secluded coves, and water creates a particularly dramatic setting for paddling.
Suddenly, the desert feels peaceful.
You can hear the water against the side of the kayak.
You look up at the canyon walls.
And the landscape that seemed so dry from the highway now feels completely different.
Look Beyond the Water
Arizona's waterways are also connected to wildlife.
Depending on the location, visitors may encounter birds, deer, wild horses, bighorn sheep, and other animals around lakes and rivers.
Lake Pleasant, for example, provides habitat for bald eagles, while the Lower Salt River is known for wild horse sightings.

This is where I realized that there isn't one perfect way to experience Arizona.
If you want exercise and adventure, choose a kayak or SUP.
If you want freedom and exploration, rent a kayak and discover the shoreline at your own pace.
If you want a relaxed family day, a pontoon boat may be the better choice.
And if you love fishing, you can combine your boat rental with a full day of fishing on the lake.
You don't have to choose between adventure and relaxation.
