Thank you for registering for Beyond the Basics(Formerly Adult Learn to Sail)! Here’s what to know as you prepare for your class:
What to Bring
-Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that can get wet
-Closed-toe shoes with good traction (no flip-flops)
-Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
-A refillable water bottle
-A light jacket or wind layer, depending on conditions
-Personal flotation devices (PFDs) will be provided, if you prefer to use your own, then you are welcome to bring a Coast Guard Approved PFD
What to Expect
-Each session includes a combination of shoreside instruction and on-the-water sailing on Lake Pontchartrain
-You’ll learn basic sailing skills in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment
-All boats, sails, and required sailing equipment are provided
-Classes are held rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe; safety is always our top priority
Parking & Arrival
- Parking is available in the lot directly outside our facility
- Additional parking is available throughout West End Park
- Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for check-in and preparation
Accessibility & Accommodations
- Our facility is ADA compliant
- Please let us know in advance if you require any special accommodations so we can plan accordingly
- While we strive to be as inclusive as possible, not all boats are equipped to accommodate all accessibility needs
